NHHM: Keep it Maintained, Keep It Temperature Controlled

This week of National Healthy Homes Month, we are going to be focusing on Keeping it Maintained, and Keeping it Temperature Controlled. A maintenance plan will keep a home safe and healthy and ready for extreme temperatures.

Keep it Maintained

A poorly-maintained home can increase the risk for deteriorated lead-based paint, especially in older housing. Lead-based paint is the primary cause of lead poisoning in children less than 6 years of age. Basic maintenance and simple repairs can keep your home healthy and lower any potential risks to your family and children. The safety of those we love should always outweigh any financial issues such as unexpected maintenance.

Keep it Temperature Controlled

Houses that do not maintain adequate temperatures may place the safety of residents at increased risk from exposure to extreme cold or heat. To avoid these extreme temperatures and potential risks, it's highly recommended to have your Heating and Cooling systems inspected and serviced on a yearly basis. It is also recommended to set your thermostats and heating units to approximately 68 degrees in the winter months and setting your AC and cooling to around 72 degrees in the summer months.
