Monday, July 11th is National Cheer Up the Lonely Day.
Did you know that over 12 million senior citizens - nearly a third of our seniors - live alone. Celebrate National Cheer Up the Lonely Day by showing a senior citizen some love and attention!
We cheered up an elderly lady in Lanham that was having a multitude of hardships. She is over 85 years old and very lonely. She loves to have a cup of tea and one of the things that she missed the most was her microwave that was not operating properly! One of our team members dropped off a new microwave to her on Friday! This provided a lot of joy to our team at Complete Home Solutions by helping her with a simple thing that made her feel valued and special! She feels more comfortable using a microwave than the stove at her age and having the new microwave helps increase the quality of her life!
Here are some ideas on ways you can help!
-Help a senior citizen with yard work or chores around the house.
-Prepare a healthy treat for a senior. Keep in mind many seniors are on restricted diets!
-Spend an afternoon playing cards or board games with a senior.
-Spend the day playing chauffeur and help a senior run errands, visit friends, or enjoy an activity like the park or the movies.
- Donate books, puzzles, cards, etc. to local nursing homes!
I know from my own personal experience, thru 2 1/2 years of visiting my Mom at different hospitals, nursing homes and rehabilitation facilities, that many seniors get no visitors at all! What a blessing you could be by donating a small portion of time to someone that has been forgotten!
Let us know what you did this National Cheer Up the Lonely Day!
