There was no barrier around the opening of the attic pull-down stairs to allow for proper insulation in the attic.  We treated the pull-down stairs by caulking around framing joints, installing weather stripping around hatch cover and installing an attic tent over the opening in the ceiling. This helped reduce the amunt of air leakage through this untreated area.
