Chase called Complete Home Solution as he was preparing to embark on finishing the unfinished basement in his Sunderland, MD home. This homeowner in Sunderland, Maryland contacted us to provide recommendations for insulating their basement. Since the basement was unfinished, our home comfort specialist recommended that the walls and rim joists be insulated with spray foam.   Having access to the walls and rim joists before the basement was finished provided our crews with an excellent opportunity to access these open areas resulting in substantial airsealing opportunities.   Our crews spray foamed the basement walls with 2" of closed cell spray foam and insulated the rim and band joists with 3" of closed cell spray foam.   With a newborn in the family, this homeowner now has a very well insulated basement that will result in a comfortable environment for the entire family.

This homeowner and his family do a lot of moving around (mainly because he's in the military and that's just what happens when you're in the military). This time, he's getting moved out of the country (huge change!). Rather than selling the home that they've been living, he decided to put it up as a rental property. Before letting anybody rent it, though, he knew that it needed to get some energy efficiency work done. He hired Complete Home Solutions to come out and figure out how exactly to do that. 

The number one improvement that we make that really increases a home's energy efficiency levels is air sealing. No matter what you do, if you don't air seal your house it's just not going to be efficient. How do we do this? In the attic we use a lot of caulk, foam board, and spray foam to seal off any cracks or cavities that allow for air leakage. In the crawl space we installed a 6 mil vapor barrier and spray foamed the existing duct work and crawl walls. After air sealing, we insulated (the next big improvement). In the attic we installed blown in cellulose insulation and in the crawl space we added fiberglass batt insulation to the ceiling. 

Along with a few other improvements, these upgrades made a huge difference for this house. It is very efficient now and is ready to take on its first set of renters. As an added bonus, the homeowner got a nice refund from the government for all of his energy efficient upgrades! Thanks to CHS, he has one less thing to worry about as he prepares for his big move!
