Blower door testing
This is what we call a "blower door test" and we perform it as a part of our home energy audit. This allows us to see how much air is leaking out of a house.
Attic with old, insufficient insulation
This is what the attic looked like before we made any upgrades. As you can see there is some insulation (that pink "fiberglass" that you see in the picture), but there wasn't nearly enough to allow for a comfortable home.
Install polysio foam board & air seal
Those gray, cardboard looking boards in the picture are polysio foam boards, and they are an awesome insulator that we often install in attics. That orange stuff that's along the wood is the caulk that we use to air seal with. Together these guys are a lean, mean, air leaking fighting machine!
New blown in cellulose insulation
Finally, we are able to install our cellulose insulation (all of that gray, kitty litter looking bulk in the picture). This is the new and improved insulation that we have found does wonders on houses such as this!
