New Cellulose Attic Insulation in Davidsonville, MD

Ductwork Without any Air Sealing

Ductwork Without any Air Sealing

These ducts in the attic were left totally expose, which is not ideal since they can then get very hot in the summertime and freeze up in the winter!

Ductwork Air Sealed with Spray Foam Insulation

We went ahead and sealed these ducts with 1" of closed cell spray foam (that's that white stuff that's covering the ducts)! Now they will be better protected from the elements during extreme weather.

This is how the ruler (middle of the picture) looks now that we have finished. There is now the BPI recommended amount of insulation in this attic, which will keep the house very comfortable this winter.

Attic Hatch Opening Air Sealed

One last important feature is the attic hatch. This is the largest barrier between your conditioned space and the attic. In order to air seal this space, we caulked the framing joints, installed weather stripping around the hatch cover, but we also insulated the hatch with 4" of polysio foam board (that's the silver, cardboard looking stuff you see in this picture).

This homeowner living in Davidsonville, Maryland was experiencing a lot of discomfort in her home. She was experiencing a lot of those symptoms that many homeowners can relate to: drafty rooms, cold floors, inconsistent temperatures throughout the house, etc. Luckily she had heard about Complete Home Solutions and was willing to give us a try. We came out to her house and performed a Home Energy Audit to figure out what we could do to help fix the situation. The diagnosis, which is often the case in many houses, was a poorly insulated attic. We got to work and made sure that this problem wouldn’t continue. We treated the attic hatch, air sealed all the attic penetrations and ductwork, and insulated the attic with TruSoft cellulose. Now, this homeowner can rest assured that her house will be comfortable this winter (and save a pretty penny in utility bills too!).
