Attic Gets Weatherized in Capitol Heights, MD

Challenge

This homeowner was really struggling with her utility bills. They were way too high. She soon found out why when she received a letter from Pepco telling her that her house scored below almost all of her neighbors in terms of energy efficiency. 

Solution

She went onto Pepco’s website to see if she could find a trustworthy contractor to fix her house. This is where she found Complete Home Solutions. We gave her a full home energy audit to find out the areas we could fix to make the biggest impact. The largest problem area ended up being the attic. We did quite a bit of work up there, including air sealing attic ceiling penetrations and wall cavities, insulating the skylight tunnel, and installing TruSoft cellulose insulation. These improvements had almost instant positive results. The homeowner just recently contacted us to say that she received her first utility bill under $200 since she moved into her current house. We were very excited to have helped this homeowner as much as we did!

The attic has been nicely air sealed and insulated in this picture. We have sealed off a major bypass that was allowing for this home to lose a lot of energy.
