This homeowner hadn’t been able to heat his place above 60 degrees since he first moved in years ago. Cold floors and drafty rooms were the norm. Every winter he faced the same struggle again and again. This year, he decided to call Complete Home Solutions and make his house feel like a home. 

Solution

As is true in most cases like this, air sealing and insulation in the attic were the answers to this homeowner’s prayers. We have two main ways that we go about air sealing: caulking and spray foam. These are extremely important parts of our services — even a seemingly small leak can cause a house to lose a lot of heated air, which directly translates to both money and comfort. Insulation — good insulation — is the other half of the equation that makes sure your house is keeping as much warm air in your living area as it can. By “good insulation” we mean insulation that is durable and effective, which is why we use TruSoft Cellulose Insulation. By the time that we were finished, this house had become more energy efficient, healthier, and more comfortable! After just a couple of weeks, the homeowner could already feel a huge difference and now thoroughly enjoys living in his home!

This is what the home's attic looked like before we got our hands on it. Very little insulation (which is that pink fluff that you see) and no air sealing. This is how an attic looks when it's letting air just flow right through it.

This is the attic now that it has cellulose insulation in it. Insulation levels should be about 16" - R 49 - to be considered effective.

As a final touch to the attic, we sealed the attic opening with an attic tent cover. This makes sure that the attic is still accessible, but is blocking air from escaping at the same time.
