Why is it Important to Air Seal and Insulate Recessed Lights?

Thermal image of a recessed light shows cold air seeping into the home through the light.

Recessed "can" lights look great, but when they protrude into your attic space, they can make your home less energy-efficient.   The purple shaded areas around the recessed light reflect the air leaks.

These recessed lights create open holes into your attic that allow unwanted heat flow between conditioned and unconditioned spaces.  In winter, the can lights draw warm air up into your attic making your living area uncomfortable and cold.

Call Complete Home Solutions to properly air seal your recessed lights.  It's important that this project be performed properly with non-combustible materials (see an example below of properly air sealed recess lights.

.After recessed lights are insulated like this picture shows, cold air no longer leaks into the home making it much more comfortable.
