How to Save Money and Energy this Winter

Here's five easy tips and tricks to keep your home warmer this winter and keep your energy bill down.

-Use humidifiers: During the winter the air inside your home can become very dry. This is ineffective for heating your house because hot air traps heat better. Humidifiers can help you feel more comfortable even if your thermostat is set at a lower temperature.

-Turn down your thermostat: This may seem counterproductive to keeping you warm. However if you turn your thermostat down while you sleep and use thicker blankets you could be saving energy and money. You can also turn down the heat when no one is home. If your family is planning a holiday vacation turn your heat down or even off.

-Only heat the rooms that you use: Many homeowners waste money heating rooms that go unused. Consider closing the vents to those rooms to keep them cooler and use the heat in a room that needs it

-Use ceiling fans: Ceiling fans aren't just a for the summer. Set your ceiling fan on low and so that it goes clockwise, pushing hot air down and keeping you warmer.

-Cover your attic entrance: Heat rises and if it has access to your attic that precious hot air will float up and away making your heating bill go up. Consider covering your attic entrance with plastic, saran wrap, blankets, extra insulation, or anything else to seal your hot air in your home.

These are just a few tips and tricks to help you keep your home warmer this winter. If none of these work or you would like a long term solution consider calling Complete Home Solutions today.
